I spent almost 6 months searching for a panic attack treatment which works.. I know it sounds ridiculous, but everyone is different, and not everyone ersponds to the same form of treatment.

What really shocked me during my search for an effective treatment for panic attacks was the willingness of counsellors and doctors to prescribe medication. If you have read posts on this blog you probably gather I am quite anti-medication.. Why? Because I have experienced first hand the negative side effects of anxiety medication, and the fact medication will only hide the symptoms of anxiety, rather than getting to the root cause of the problem..

Anyhow, you can check out my full story HERE

I wrote this article to highlight the importance of treating anxiety attacks - and specifically that every person can react quite differently to treatment options.

In some cases some basic counselling is all that is needed. Sometimes the anxiety attacks are so severe that there is no option but to prescribe medication.

Not for a minute am I suggesting that any form of medication is going to cure anyone of anxiety attacks - all it will do is control the symptoms so that the real cause of the anxiety can be adressed.

The majority of anxiety attack cases can be treated without the need for medication.

Wanted to talk a bit more about treatment for panic attacks - specifically why you should only use medication as a last resort. When I was first diagnosed with panic attacks by my therapist, the first suggestion was for me to take some anxiety medication - xanax. At the time I really did not have many other options, so I started taking it..

The problem was that I became highly dependent on the medication - its was as if the only way to keep my anxiety at bay was to take the medication.. At the end of the day you need to tackle panic and anxiety attacks from within. While there are some serious cases, where medication is most certainly required, you will most likley just become dependent on taking the medication to reduce your panic attacks, rather than treating the real cause.

Remember you are not alone, there are millions of people worldwide who suffer from panic attacks. Click HERE to discover the best treatment for panic attacks, which are completely free of medication
